About

Life: Born in Maryland, but spent most of my time in the Seattle area. Graduated from Washington State University with a major in Communications (broadcast journalism) and a minor in music (vocal performance). Father to two awesome young adult sons. Lived in: Seattle, Tacoma, Boise, Spokane, Shoreline, Edmonds, Manhattan (Upper West Side) and Great Neck, Long Island. And now Bothell, WA.

Work: Back in the day, I scrapped paint off of a rusting ship. I’ve cleaned toilets and mowed lawns as a park employee. I gave bad advice as a garden expert at Fred Meyer. I worked through college as a pizza delivery driver, cook and manager. After college, I worked for a small publishing company then four television stations, Microsoft, Consumer Reports, and now Amazon.

Here’s my professional description: Experienced digital media and content management professional with expertise combining strategic insight, creative spirit and journalistic know-how to maximize results for powerhouse brands. Engaging team leader with a history of managing products and people directly or working in matrix organizations to develop and produce multi-platform content using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies. Effective in fostering cross-functional collaboration between technical and creative personnel (editorial team). Adept at improving user engagement, resolving complex issues and easing content publishing pain points through innovative solutions and actionable business plans. Robust, award-winning newsroom background, leveraging sound judgment in breaking news and big story coverage. See my profile on LinkedIn.

wsu-picMotto: I’m nowhere near where I need to be, but I’m closer than I was before. #NeverGiveUp

Geek: Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Xbox 360, GameCube, N64, Wii-U, (2) DS and (2) 3-DS. I’m a long-time TiVo lover (I’ve had 7 machines). I am also experienced in: Microsoft Visual Studio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, XML, CSS,  Web-Publishing and Content Management Tools, HTML, XHTML (asp.net), Microsoft in-house web-publishing tools, Expression Web, AVID Newscutter, Adobe Premiere, PhotoShop, Flash, Cool Edit Pro, Mac, Jira, Dreamweaver and iNEWS.

Fan: Love Doctor Who! I’m no newbie. Been watching the long-running British sci-fi television show since I was ten, painstakingly tuning in the rabbit ears of my 10-inch black and white TV to pick up the Canadian station broadcasting it. Stephen King is a fav, too. I also loved reading Game of Thrones, but have yet to watch more than a few episodes of the HBO series (perhaps my run in with one of it’s actresses is to blame). My oldest son is infatuated with the Ghost Hunters-like series and we watch quite a bit of shows with lines like, “Did you hear that?”

Skills: I have a minor is vocal performance. I love to sing and perform. You could call me an expert on health and fitness. I’ve lost 100 lbs, . . .  three times (I really love food). Some consider me an amateur chef with a killer spaghetti sauce and a grilled steak that will make your toes curl. (Is this related to my previously mentioned “skill”?) And here’s more: Agile, Scrum, Content Strategy, Digital Media, New Media, Blogging, Content Management, Video, Video Production, Social Media, Journalism, Editorial, Copy Editing, CMS, Publishing, Television, Program Management, Digital Strategy, Facebook, Storytelling, Broadcast, Social Networking, Web Content Management, Web Analytics, Online Publishing, Public Relations, Content Development, Video Editing, Project Coordination, Online Journalism, Photoshop, Omniture, HTML, Strategy, Process Improvement, Budgets, TV News Production, Partner Management, Website Development, Web Producing, Social Media Marketing, Vendor Management, Strategic Hiring, User Experience, Mentoring, Priority Management, Communications Strategy, Content Creation, Event Planning, Television Production, Live Shows, Twitter
